The Strong is centrally located at One Manhattan Square in downtown Rochester, New York.
Easily accessible from the New York State Thruway and regional expressways, The Strong is only one hour by car from Buffalo, 75 minutes from Syracuse, and approximately six hours or less from cities such as Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Toronto, and Washington, DC.
From the West: Take the NYS Thruway to Exit 47 (LeRoy). Take I-490 East to Exit 15 (Inner Loop). At the first traffic light, turn left onto Chestnut St. Travel to Woodbury Blvd. Turn right into the museum entrance.
From the East: Take the NYS Thruway to Exit 45 (Rochester). Take I-490 West to Exit 16 (Clinton Ave./Downtown). At the first traffic light, turn right onto Woodbury Blvd. At the next traffic light, cross Chestnut St. into the museum entrance.
From the South: Take I-390 North to I-590 North. Follow I-590 North to I-490 West. Take I-490 West to Exit 16 (Clinton Ave./Downtown). At the first traffic light, turn right onto Woodbury Blvd. At the next traffic light, cross Chestnut St. into the museum entrance.
RTS is the regional, public transportation provider serving both city and suburban travelers. Stops on the RTS system are within easy walking distance of The Strong museum. The bus system offers departure points across Monroe County and connecting routes from Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne, and other neighboring counties.
Guests flying into the Greater Rochester International Airport will enjoy short flight times—less than 90 minutes—from cities such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, and Washington, DC. Once at the airport, a 10-minute taxi ride or rideshare will bring you to The Strong museum.
The Rochester, New York, region has more than 60 weekly Amtrak passenger rail departures from downtown. The rail station is within a short rideshare or taxi ride to The Strong museum.
Limited, free parking is available at the museum for all guests during regular museum hours on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests access the museum’s parking lot via Woodbury Boulevard. Please note that on high visitation days the museum lot may reach capacity early in the day. (RV parking is limited; early arrival is advised.) If space is not available on site at the time of your visit, additional parking is available at neighboring municipal garages for a fee. The Strong is not responsible for fees incurred at off-site locations. Parking in The Strong’s lot is restricted to museum guest use only. Unauthorized cars may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Unless other arrangements have been made prior to the visit, buses should enter the museum campus through the entrance located at Woodbury Boulevard and proceed straight through to the museum's parking lot. At the end of the lot, take a right and proceed to the education entrance under the blue awning. After unloading, buses will be directed to a designated bus parking area.
Parking spaces are available in The Strong museum lot for $7 during the following events and festivals occurring in nearby Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park: Party in the Park, Pride Festival, Roc the Park, Juneteenth Celebration, Jerk Festival, Fringe Festival, and the Celtic Festival.
Overnight parking and tailgating are not permitted.
